A little boy sang a song and played his guitar
He only made a record as a present for Ma
He didn’t know that somebody was watching

Somebody came up to him, said:
”You’ve got a nice voice when you sing!”
He didn’t know that fortune was smiling

His innocence didn’t disappear
When he made them scream and a fabulous career

He kind of lived a fairy-tale
Almost drowned in a heap of mail
Every single girl was hoping

He had money and a lot of fame
But the little boy was just the same
He didn’t know that somebody was watching

He denied he had
A mortal dad
No friends no one
Only his mum

He lost the ground he was bound to fall
Heading straight for a great big wall
The very first sign of a breakdown

The years went by and he wasn’t there
He was on drugs he didn’t care
He didn’t care if somebody was watching
Didn’t care if somebody was watching
Didn’t care if somebody was watching (till no one was)

One morning he was found dead
He was lying in his bed
“A heart attack”, the doctor said
At 36 that’s rather sad

Millions at his grave and all of them cried
Where was everyone the days he died
I suppose everyone was watching
The rock star died and the legend was born
And the little boy was completely gone
He disappeared in the shadow of the legend
